eReader
E-readers form a digital solution for reading books, newspapers and magazines without having to take piles of paper with you. Useful if you want to enjoy an exciting book on holiday or you want to read your favourite magazine on the train.
What is an E-reader?
An E-reader is a portable device with which you can read digital books and newspapers and so do not need to drag along any paperwork. The simple operation and focus of the device that you can adjust yourself makes the E-reader a useful addition under all circumstances. The offer of accompanying E-books is growing by the day and new books are usually produced in this digital form immediately upon publication.
Screen quality and display
E-readers from for instance Kobo or Icarus are not only easy to use but also offer a quality and display which will not quickly tire your eyes. The current offer mainly comprises readers with an E-ink screen, whereby the surrounding light serves as a means for lighting the screen. In comparison with frequently used LCD screens, background light is therefore not used and sunlight does not form an obstacle for a good display. The advantage to an E-ink screen is that the tiny balls that manage the black/white mimic the natural feeling of a paper newspaper or book. This not only makes the text easy to read, but it also ensures that your eyes are not strained too much. When you read in the evening in particular, it is recommended to purchase an E-reader which has background light. This can also be produced via the same technology of E-ink screens. As well as the advantage for the display, these screens are energy-saving and the battery lasts a long time.
Storage capacity
The storage capacity is decisive for the number of books and newspapers that you can have on the E-reader. With a single gigabyte of storage, you can already have a maximum of 1000 books and this number increases with more storage space. Comic books or newspapers with many photos take up more space. E-readers often have a minimum of 4 gigabyte in storage capacity and so have enough space to store everything.
Reading options
With an E-reader, you can not only read books, but also complete newspapers, comic books and magazines. All these files can easily be transferred to the device via your computer or smartphone. Via the WiFi connection on the reader, it is also possible to purchase the digital versions in an online bookshop. The standard file format is ePub and can be read on all readers. Other formats such as PDF or Word files can also be read on certain E-readers.
