Five tips to protect your camera from rain
Tip 1: Use a rain cover
The rain cover is like a poncho for your camera. Rain, snow, dirt, sand, or dust? With a rain cover, everything stays dry and protected. This way, you also still have access to all camera buttons. Very handy if you want to change your settings or view the result.
Tip 2: Protect your lens with a lens hood
A lens hood is multi-purpose. It protects your lens not only from unwanted light but also from rain. The lens hood is an extension of your lens and prevents the lens from being exposed to the rain.
Tip 3: Dry your lens with a lens cloth
Did any drops accidentally get on the lens? Then remove them with a lens cloth . This is specially made for the lens and prevents scratches and lint. Thanks to the material, your lens will be clean and dust-free in no time.
Tip 4: Put a filter on your lens
A filter might not be the first thing that comes to mind. However, it can serve a dual function. A polarizing filter, for example, provides stronger contrast and reduces reflections. Naturally, it also protects the front lens of your objective, and with a bit of luck, the filter is water-repellent.
Tip 5: Protect your backpack with a rain cover
Don't forget a good backpack with a rain cover to protect your valuables during transport. It would be a shame if the camera came home soaked anyway. Did the camera get wet during your outdoor trip? Then let the camera acclimatize in the bag upon your return. Do not do this near a heater to avoid condensation. Condensation can damage your equipment. Once the camera has reached room temperature, you can dry it thoroughly. However, as with everything: prevention is better than cure.
