The buttons on the lens let you lock focus and switch between autofocus and manual focus, among other things. Two extra-low dispersion elements and a Super ED element in the lens barrel help keep chromatic aberration under control and reduce colour fringing for more clarity and colour accuracy.
A directly driven Super Sonic Wave Motor AF system and internal focusing mechanism deliver fast, quiet and accurate autofocus performance, and also contribute to a more natural, intuitive manual focus feel. If you want to use longer shutter speeds, the built-in image stabilisation comes in handy. The lens stabilisation works seamlessly together with your camera's built-in stabilisation.

With the high-quality Sony E-Mount 2.0x Teleconverter, you can double your lens's focal length without any loss of image quality. Communication between the lens and camera body, such as the transfer of data for metering, autofocus and optical image stabilisation, is fully supported. An extender is a compact, lightweight way to get a larger, sharper image of your subject. With the Sony E-Mount 2.0x Teleconverter, for example, you can shoot with the Sony FE 70-200mm f/2.8 GM OSS lens as if it were a lens with a range of 140-400mm. The maximum aperture is reduced by around two f-stops. This means that with a lens that has a maximum aperture of f/2.8, you can shoot with f/5.6 as the maximum aperture.
