The Sony FX5 is a compact pro cine camera with a 16.6-megapixel full-frame stacked Exmor RS sensor and the new BIONZ XR2 processor with an integrated AI unit. The camera brings Open Gate recording, internal X-OCN recording and Three Base ISO to the FX series: features previously reserved for higher-end models in the Cinema Line. At launch, you already film up to 4K 120fps and Full HD up to 240fps; via the future firmware update, this expands to 5K 120fps and 4K 240fps slow motion in X-OCN.
Flagship-level image quality
At the heart of the FX5, the stacked Exmor RS sensor, with a stacked structure for faster readout, and the BIONZ XR2 processor work together. The sensor combines a wide dynamic range, the difference between the darkest and lightest details the camera can still capture, with a high readout speed, for rich cinematic images while retaining detail in both light and dark areas. With a dynamic range of more than 15 stops, information is retained in both highlights and shadows, for smooth, rich colour gradation.
Room for creative freedom in recording and editing
Open Gate recording uses the entire sensor surface instead of a crop, and is already available at launch on the FX5: up to 5016 x 3344 pixels in 3:2 via X-OCN at 60fps. Later, with the future firmware update, this expands to 120fps, Open Gate also becomes available in XAVC 4K, and the regular Full Frame 16:9 and 17:9 recording modes likewise film up to 120fps in X-OCN. Internal X-OCN recording, Sony's own RAW video format, delivers 16-bit colour depth without needing an external recorder. Three Base ISO (800, 4000 and 12800) makes it easier to capture clean images with a wide dynamic range in varying lighting conditions: the sensor switches between three points where the least image noise occurs. A new Dual Gain mode reduces noise in dark areas and further widens the dynamic range in the shadows.
Familiar controls for professional results
The controls are built around a clear menu layout and home screen, with buttons such as HOME, USER and a Multi Function Dial for quick access to your settings. The 3.5-inch screen tilts on 4 axes in virtually any direction. Settings and indicators are shown via a black OSD display, so your view of the image stays unobstructed while filming. For precise exposure and focus, you have false colour, where a colour coding shows exposure at a glance, waveform and vector, which graphically display brightness and colour, and focus map, which visually marks what's in sharp focus, alongside the existing histogram, zebra and peaking functions. The AI-driven subject recognition via the BIONZ XR2 recognises humans, animals and birds separately, with a new priority setting for animals and birds, and keeps your subject sharply in frame even at high ISO values and in low light.
Equipped for professional workflows
At launch, the FX5 already films up to 4K 120fps and Full HD up to 240fps, for smooth slow motion in various formats. Full 5K 120fps and 4K 240fps slow motion in X-OCN follows later with the future firmware update, for even more room to slow down action in detail. With anamorphic de-squeeze ratios up to 2.0x, which recalculate the squeezed image from an anamorphic lens back to the correct aspect ratio, you monitor in real time with a wider range of anamorphic lenses than its predecessor. With the new optional XLR Handle Unit, a handle with professional microphone connections, you record audio at 96 kHz/32-bit float. For multi-camera productions, you effortlessly synchronise timecodes via the new TC cable, and the optional tiltable electronic viewfinder with 7,077,888 dots OLED gives you precise control while filming.

Sony FE 35mm F/1.4 GM
The Sony FE 35mm F/1.4 GM is a wide-aperture lens for photo and video applications. The advanced optics, with two XA elements and one aspherical element, deliver an incredibly high resolution from corner to corner, along with superior bokeh quality.
Two XD linear motors provide fast, precise and quiet autofocus and tracking in this compact, lightweight Sony G Master lens. The internal focusing system keeps the angle of view stable during focusing. This keeps focus breathing to a minimum. The Sony FE 35mm F/1.4 GM is an incredible lens for video and delivers smooth, fast and continuous autofocus performance for filming.
The circular aperture with 11 blades produces beautiful circular bokeh out-of-focus background effects at F/1.4. The lens surfaces feature Sony's Nano AR Coating II. This coating effectively minimises internal reflections, even in bright sunlight and backlighting, and prevents flares and ghosting.
Two XD linear (extreme dynamic) motors with their complex construction provide faster and more precise focusing than conventional lenses for photography and videography. With this wide-aperture lens, you never miss a shot. The Sony FE 35mm F/1.4 GM lens has a minimum focusing distance of 27 centimetres in autofocus and 25 centimetres in manual focus for excellent close-up performance with a wide angle of view.
The dust- and moisture-resistant design and versatile controls of this prime lens make it ideal for use in the most challenging conditions, both indoors and outdoors.
