The Rollei Filter Mark II 180 Hard Nano IR GND8 is a rectangular graduated neutral density filter with a hard transition. A graduated grey filter is used to compensate for differences in brightness along the horizon. The hard GND filter is generally used when there is a clearly defined boundary between dark and light areas. In this case, the filter has the same effect as a grey filter along the top edge. Towards the centre, the grey graduation gradually decreases, transitioning from the centre of the filter downwards with a short transition to transparent.

Hard GND filter in various gradations

The Rollei Hard GND filter is available in GND4, GND8, GND16, and GND32 versions, depending on the width of the filter holder. The number refers to the degree of darkening and the amount of f-stop reduction. Hard GND filters are available in widths ranging from 70 mm to 180 mm. This is a 180 mm GND8 filter. The filter blocks 3 stops of light.
