The Tiffen 52mm "apeX" 10 Stops & Hot Mirror & IR Cut filter is a combination of both a hot mirror infrared filter and a 3.0 neutral density filter. A hot mirror IRND is ideal for HD cameras, which have a greater light sensitivity and are therefore more susceptible to IR infection. When using a standard neutral density filter to compensate for the increased sensitivity of the HD sensor, the effects of infrared pollution become clearer. This filter combines an ND filter with a similar IR filter to eliminate infrared light pollution that reaches the sensor while retaining the additional exposure benefits of a neutral density filter. The hot mirror filtration contains a dielectric mirror to control the effects of both near and far infrared regions of the spectrum. An infrared control filter helps prevent infrared pollution from affecting the color density of images; this creates a wider color range and warmer colors, especially striking in the dark areas of the image.
