Description
The brand new, compact and lightweight Panasonic AU-EVA1 Body with 5.7K super 35 mm sensor is ideal for shots from hand, but also great for documentary, commercials and music videos. With the newly designed 5.7K super 35 mm sensor (5720x3016, or approximately 17.25 million pixels), cinema-quality images can be made. Because the 5.7K sensor has a higher native resolution, downsampling to 4K, UHD, 2K and even to 720p produces a higher image resolution. The improved color information ensures a finer, more accurate final image. The EVA1 has dual native ISO, just like the VariCam 35, VariCam LT and VariCam Pure. By using a process that allows the sensor to be read in a substantially different way, dual native ISO extracts more information from the sensor without sacrificing image quality. This provides a camera that can easily switch from standard to high sensitivity without increasing noise or other artifacts. Thanks to the dual native ISO, a cameraman needs less light on the set. This saves time and money and at the same time makes various artistic choices possible.
The ability to capture lifelike colors and rich skin tones is a must for every filmmaker. Just like the VariCam series camcorders, the EVA1 V-log/V-gamut record, which provide a high dynamic range and a wide color gamut with the possibility to create a dynamic range of 14 stops. The log curve of V-Log is reminiscent of negative film and V-gamut provides a color space that is even larger than film. The EVA1 also takes over the acclaimed colorimetry from the VariCam series. Users can choose between MOV wrapped codecs up to 10-bit 422, even in 4K, as well as AVCHD. By capturing internally in 4K, UHD, 2K, Full HD and HD, the EVA1 offers up to 59.94fps/50fps for 4K/UHD, up to 120fps/100fps for 2K/Full HD, or 240fps/200fps (cropped area) for high-speed recording.

With a weight of only 1.2 kg (casing), a compact shape (17 x 13.5 x 13.3 cm) and a detachable handle, the EVA1 is suitable for efficient shooting from hand. The camera can also be mounted on a drone, stabilizer or jib to create complex yet smooth camera movements. The adjustable handle offers various controls, including menu, REC start-stop, iris and two user-configured buttons. The LCD monitor has a touch screen and can be mounted flexibly.
Recordings on cheap media/SD card
The EVA1 records via two SD card slots, with the option to record with Relay Rec (continuous recording) or Simul Rec (simultaneous double recording). There is also a one-shot recording function, for single-frame video for stop-motion recording.
Features of the Panasonic AU-EVA1 Body
- 5.7 K super 35 mm image sensor reaches 4K/10-bit 4:2:2 high-quality images
- Dynamic range of 14 stops, V-Log gamma curve and V-Gamut colorimetry with wide color gamut
- Two native ISO settings (800 and 2500) for very high sensitivity with low noise
- Recording with high frame rate: up to 4K 60 fps/2K 240 fps
- EF lens mount
Lenses with EF fitting
The camera uses its own EF fitting, allowing filmmakers access to the broad ecosystem of EF lenses, including dozens of professional prime and zoom lenses from various manufacturers.
EIS and integrated ND filters
Electronic image stabilization (EIS) is used to compensate camera shake and movement. Shots from hand and shots with shoulder support, for example for documentaries or action books, are stabilized. Behind the lens mount is an integrated ND filter wheel with 2, 4 and 6 stops for precise control of the shutter speed. With the EVA1, the IR cut filter can also be shoved out of the sensor's path with one push of a button. This control over infrared allows unique photo effects and night shots.
Professional features
As a professional video production tool, the EVA1 offers double-balanced XLR audio input with Dolby Audio encoding. And 4K video outputs in both HDMI and SDI, each of which can be set separately. This allows HD to be transmitted to a viewfinder or monitor from another manufacturer, while 4K is sent to an external recorder or monitor. Timecode In/Out is also supported on the EVA1, unlike some other cameras in this class. By adding the AJ-WM50 Wi-Fi adapter, all menu functions of the EVA1 can be remotely controlled via iOS or Android with a special app.
